Daytona Beach, Fla., Nov. 8, 2010 – The Center for Aviation and Aerospace Leadership (CAAL) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide will host its second Aviation and Aerospace Manufacturing Summit on Feb. 23-25, 2011, at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn in Orlando, Fla.
The two-day summit will present data and address issues on the state of aerospace manufacturing in the United States and around the world for both military and commercial markets. Events will include workshops on leadership and strategy, lectures, panel discussions, and presentations on hot topics and key trends affecting the industry.
“Last year’s inaugural Aviation and Aerospace Manufacturing Summit was an outstanding example of the high-quality outreach we want to continue to provide to our aviation leadership community,” said John R. Watret, Ph.D., Executive Vice President of the Worldwide Campus. “We are excited to announce that this year’s event will offer even more opportunities to continue the dialogue about how to successfully solve critical leadership and management issues facing aerospace manufacturers.”
Leaders from across the industry, ranging from the U.S. military, NASA, and Department of Commerce to private industry and academia, will conduct the summit’s sessions and seminars. The 2011 summit will feature an array of industry leaders that reads like a “Who’s Who” in aviation and aerospace, including Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force; Tony Velocci, Editor-in-Chief of Aviation Week & Space Technology; Gregory F. Hall, Vice President of Aircraft Maintenance for FedEx Express; and Raul Regalado, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, who will be addressing the findings of the Department of Transportation’s Future of Aviation Advisory Committee.
“Through focused research, knowledge management, and targeted development programs, CAAL explores both the personality traits that define great aviation and aerospace leaders, as well as the knowledge, skills, and best practices required to excel at the highest levels of industry,” said Dr. Robert Materna, Director of CAAL and a professor of Business Administration at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide.
Additional featured faculty and staff include U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Robert E. Mansfield Jr., aerospace executive in residence for CAAL; Dr. Bruce Ellis, Senior Aerospace Economist and Manufacturing Strategist for CAAL; Dr. Kees Rietsema, Director of Research for CAAL; and Dr. Ken Jennings, Managing Director of Third River Partners, a leadership development and strategy execution consultancy whose clients include Aerojet and General Electric’s jet engine division.
“The challenges facing the aviation and aerospace industry today are complex, and there is a tremendous need for programs than can prepare leaders to meet these challenges,” said General Mansfield. Even though there are signs that certain sectors of the industry are improving, recovery is far from certain. The 2011 Summit will help decision-makers anticipate and respond to these challenges and provide insight to assist them in being even more effective.

VERO BEACH, FL, November 8, 2010 – The DPHA Annual Conference and Product Showcase brought together a number of unique, new and efficient decorative plumbing and hardware products. Highlights of the show included sessions with industry experts and the launch of new eco friendly decorative plumbing and hardware designs. For the first time in the conference’s history, a professional Q&A forum was offered to the attendees, featuring industry experts. David Croom, President of Croom Construction Company, was the General Contractor expert on “The Creative Trilogy” panel.
Croom candidly answered questions from the group of representatives, dealers and manufacturers, noting that he has always felt passionate about building, remodeling, and helping clients build their luxury dream homes. When asked how the decorative plumbing and hardware retail industry could better serve contractors, Croom stated that they needed to “reevaluate how they currently work with industry professionals like contractors, interior designers, architects, and even plumbers. Building homes in the luxury market has changed. Our economy has changed dramatically in the last five years, and your business must make changes to adapt, including re-examining your margins.”
David Croom received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Industrial Engineering from the University of Georgia and an MBA from the University of Miami.
Early in Croom’s building career, Llwyd Ecclestone Sr., founder of John’s Island in Vero Beach, invited Croom to partner with him to build luxury homes and oceanfront apartments in 1978. “I knew instantly that I finally had an opportunity to execute the architectural details and achieve the level of quality that had been so familiar to me while growing up in Virginia,” said Croom.
When asked the secret of his success, Croom replied that his engineering and architectural experience combined with strong people skills and a natural penchant for sales continue to guide him and his business.
He also added that to overcome some of the obstacles and challenges facing the industry, including tough economic times, “Croom Construction continues to focus on highly attentive customer service and anticipating the need for new and valuable services.” For example, Croom Construction pioneered preventive home maintenance and property management for the high-end homes that they built by opening Whitehall Professional Property Management over 12 years ago. Today, other builders are following their lead.
Vicki Pfeil, President of Miller’s Fine Decorative Hardware in Jupiter, was inspired by Croom’s message. Pfeil said, “It’s clear that Mr. Croom has the qualities you need to succeed – he has determination, is a go-getter, and has a ‘can’t fail’ attitude. After hearing him I realize that I need to take a different approach to achieve some of my current goals. I’ve started to take the adequate steps to incorporate an updated business plan that is focused on future business needs and goals for industry professionals.”
As the founder of Croom Construction, David brings a natural-born, winning attitude to the process of
building and renovating homes. His client relationships and his strategy for creating beautiful homes immediately demonstrates his deep commitment to getting it right.
About Croom Construction Company
Croom Construction Company was founded in 1978 and has since built over 600 estate homes in developments such as Windsor, Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club, John’s Island, and The Moorings. Croom Construction Company continues to rank nationally for their remodeling and renovations division, including 13th place in this year’s Remodeling Magazine 550 and 79th place in the nation’s 2010 Top 500 list of remodeling firms by Qualified Remodeler Magazine. Croom Construction Company is located at 1201 19th Place, Suite A400, Vero Beach, Florida. For more information, call 772-562-7474 or visit www.solidcroomconstruction.com.

Vero Beach’s OcuCue LLC Announces Management Team and New Blog
Posted on June 4th, 2010
VERO BEACH, FL., June 4, 2010 – One of Florida’s newest technical start-ups, the visual analytic network monitoring solution company OcuCue LLC, recently named its leadership team and launched a blog, announced Stuart C. Woodward, president of OcuCue.
“We are thrilled to have formed such a team of experienced, talented individuals at our Vero Beach headquarters,” said Stuart C. Woodward, president of OcuCue. “Employees are the foundation of a company, and with this team I am confidant OcuCue is structured for success.”
Russ Grant was named Director of Technology for OcuCue. With over 20 years’ experience in the IT industry, Grant knows the frustrations that IP network engineers face when they spend too much time drilling and troubleshooting. Prior to OcuCue, Grant was account manager with SITA, the world’s leading service provider of IT business solutions and communication services to the air transport industry. Earlier he managed American Airlines’ second largest network operations center. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Electronic Engineering from ITT Technical Institute, is a Cisco Certified Network Associate, a certified Novel Engineer and a Microsoft certified Systems Engineer.
Barbara Cassidy has been named Director of Sales for OcuCue. Before joining OcuCue, Cassidy worked in various sales and consulting roles with SouthStar Development Partners in Vero Beach, and Votar Corporation, The Yankee Group, Telsource Corporation and AT&T in Virginia and Maryland. She holds a MBA from George Washington University, a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia, and is a CMSP (Certified Managed Services Professional).
Samuel Schultz, an Orlando native, is a Sales Engineer at OcuCue. He spent four years as an IT Technician with Sea World of Florida in Orlando and is a CMSP. Schultz has worked in various customer service roles with Service Master and Elavon in Knoxville.
Erik Penfield, CSMP, held technical management positions with Green Atom, Data Intensity and Oracle before joining OcuCue as an Account Manager. Prior to building his technical expertise, Penfield worked as a chemist at St. Louis Testing Labs, Ethyl Corporation, Chemir and Quanterra. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and German Studies from Principia College, along with a PMP certification from the Project Management Institute.
Sean Coakley has joined OcuCue to oversee Global Business Development after working four years with Spectorsoft in Vero Beach in International Business and Channel Development. Coakley’s background also includes positions with MicroWarehouse/CDW and Veritas Credit Corporation in Connecticut. Coakley holds a BS from Southern Connecticut State University.
As the sales agency for VisualCue Technologies’ solution in the IP networking space, and an accredited MSP Alliance vendor, OcuCue LLC brings this new network monitoring system based on visual analytics to the global market. OcuCue delivers an approach to data comprehension that enables the human eye to quickly scan detailed information to extract status, relationships and trends, all with little or no training.
OcuCue’s customized network monitoring solutions are designed to address companies’ specific monitoring needs. With icons customized for each client, the client sets the parameters of what data and systems to monitor – there are no canned reports or queries for which analysts have to settle. The customizable icon changes as status changes, and enables engineers to resolve system issues in a much more timely manner. It speeds up work processes, and is a powerful, affordable IT management software solution.
